i never listened to the music of aphex twin in the nineties because these album covers repulsed me.  add to that the imagery of copying and pasting this face onto a bikini clad buxom woman's body, juxtaposing this bearded toothy rictus with scantily clad fake looking women's breasts, as this artist did in his promotional material... and... that was enough to turn me off the the work of this musical genius.  i am ashamed to admit this.  however, in my defense, at that time, i was still masturbating to victoria's secret catalogs that i'd stolen from friends' moms.  my mom didn't get those leingerie catalogues in the mail, thank heavens, because that would have been very confusing and upsetting for my young highly impressionable mind.  dope jams on this record.  definitely stands the test of time.  it's so nice to get aquainted with the work of a massively famous artist and to feel that all the hype is deserved for a change.

one thing i have learned that traditional musics from indonesia and india have in common is that they have certain musics that are designated for specific times of day.  i always liked that.  this here is a fine release of upbeat electronic music from the talented producer max cooper.  this one is a bit more exciting to me than his later record, 'emergence'.  this is pop music.  it's fun.  not to be taken too seriously, in my opinion.  definitely day time jams.

klara lewis is among my favorite electronic musicians making music today.  i was stunned by the elegance of her 2016 album, 'too'.  so i decided to dig into her back catalogue.  this ep is perhaps not as mind blowing as her two full length lps are for me, yet, i like how it gives a window into the evolution of her sound.

this is another artist mister midtown put me on to.  decent stuff.  it also kind of sounds like it'd be a great soundtrack to the next matt damon film.  so.  there is that.  nonetheless, this is pretty decent day time do the dishes upbeat kind of music.  i advise you don't listen to it at night, just because if you do, then some of the song titles - such as 'order from chaos' or 'distant light' or even 'impermanence' might make you groan.  give this guy a break, though.  it's hard to come up with upbeat music that doesn't make you want to puke.

mister midtown told me everything aphex twin ever touched is golden.  never a man to ignore a hot tip, i investigated.  i began by torrenting this artist's discography.  as it's important to seed torrents as well as to download them, i let this seed for a while on my computer while i took it in.  a couple weeks later, i got a notice from my internet service providor that the copywrite owner of some of this material was pissed off, and that my account may be suspended.  i stopped the seeding.  this one from 1995 is, indeed, pretty great, mister midtown.

promise and warning post number one thousand!!!

this is a release that gives and gives with repeated listens.  it did not grab me on first listen.  but, once you get to track eleven, you should be sold.  in fact, you might even want to skip straight to track eleven.  it's called 'horse'... as far as i can tell, it's about horses.  i think it's my favorite song of 2016.  duck fight goose is a brilliant band.  they hail from shanghai.  their previous long player, 'sports', available elsewhere on this site, is a great record of kraut rock inspired tunes.  this new record went into the future.  in fact, the title is german - if you replace the v's for u's - for 'club future'.  this definitely sounds like 2016 music.  

i've been doing this blog of free musics for five years and five months.  i waited a while to decide upon a record that was worthy enough to hold the one thousanth marker.  this band is certainly forward thinking.

i was reading an interview with katie gately after the recent release of her excellent album 'colors', and in it, she provided a playlist, and a track from klara lewis was on there.  artists recommending artists, this can be among the best ways to discover new art.  this klara lewis certainly did not disappoint.  i might even like it better than the katie gately.  granted, gately's record takes more chances than this one.  still, this one delivers again and again on repeated listens.  electronic records tend to have a short shelf life for me, just because they tend to sound dated after a year or two, often times.  this record is very minimal, and quite tasteful.  it has a really soothing vibe.  i suspect this might be in rotation for me for some time to come.

back in 2011, i was living in indonesia studying gamelan. i'd been there for a couple years by this point and was starving for fresh western sounds to tickle my ear drums. a friend of mine brought me a year end best of 2011 december issue of wire magazine and i ate it up with a spoon.  kuedo's debut record, 'severant', was among the records i learned about through that issue, and i promptly downloaded it and devoured it.  five years later i'm happy to give his latest effort a spin and learn that kuedo still keeps it fresh and interesting.  moody soundtracky electro sounds on this fine release.
