o.v.a.l. - 'p.o.p.p.' (2016)
90s german glitch master markus popp continues to re-invent his oval project for the 2010s and beyond. i worshipped this guy's records when i was in high school and had several on vinyl. the cerebral sound of cds skipping, used as percussion in his deliciously complex compositions, had me hooked. on this record, popp borrows from his signature sound, updates it to modern platforms of computer music making, and takes aim at making a dance record.

n.i.c.o.l.a.s. j.a.a.r. - 'sirens'
one of two records put out this year by this young chilean gentleman. this man was one half of the group darkside, who's lp from 2013, called 'psychic', i enjoyed very much. this particular record, 'sirens', i find to be a bit wobbly inso far as it has its ups and downs. it's generally pleasant background 2016 music. could be fitting for a decent movie soundtrack... or could be just as appropriate for a volkswagen commercial.

A.S.A.-C.H.A.N.G. & J.U.N.R.A.Y. - 'M.A.H.O.'
asa-chang and junray make a most curious mix of sophisticated experimental easy listening fractured pop. their records are uneven, and it's difficult to play one from front to back. but, i think the highlights, for instance track two on this release, are well worth visiting. to me this is some of the strangest most daring music i know of being made today. dig it.

r.a.i.m.e. - 't.o.o.t.h.' (2016)
as their follow up to their lp, 'quarter turns over a living line', raime brings guitar into the mix. the result is crisp out of the ice box frigid beats of a higher order. turn the bass up in your car, wind the windows down with this record playing loud, and look out the windows and scowl at people outside.
