remember that band from the 90s on king koffey's record label, trance syndicate, called bedhead? remember you thought they were totally biting off of seminal 90s slowcore pioneers, codeine, except that, bedhead actually wrote some decent songs so you owned a couple of their records and liked em well and good enough? remember, that one time, when they covered a tune by cher, and you were all like, omg, they made this really annoying horrible pop tune actually sound kinda good? so yea. bedhead changed their name to the new year. they put out a few albums in the early 2000s that nobody cared about on touch and go records before that great label finally bit the dust. fast forward nine years, and here we have this album. and guess what, buddy boy? you guessed it. this record totally slays. there is a lot of revival in this day and age. bands getting together, playing shows full of tunes from classic albums, in some cases pretty much self declaring an album a classic just because its old and a bunch of people used to own it on cassette. this record, on the other hand, feels like a continuation of 90s music. how 90s indie rock might have blossomed and sprouted new growth had it not withered and died as it did. there is some really sweet wurlitzer playing on this record. dig it.

ok, you don't still own pants big enough to accommodate a friend alongside yourself. you were never really that into glowsticks in the first place. when it comes to juggling, you're all thumbs. never thought anyone looked even a little bit cool in a cat in the hat hat. pacifiers are for babies and babies only. that is all well and good. this music still rules.

S.e.c.o.n.d. W.o.m.a.n. - 'S/W' (2017)
discovered this on the social media account of skee mask, who is a dj i like, who was plugging this record. the record is pretty minimal, not very dynamic. i don't usually go in for electronic artists who seem to be, like, one trick ponies, where they just have this one kinda static thing that they do, and they release records that are a bunch of different variations on a theme. i prefer a little more diversity to a record, generally speaking. this record, while it does sort of fit that description, does impress me, because its trick is so good. the beats sound like the drumming in 'gold' by bloody panda. lots of accellerandos and de-accellerandos. i dig. this almost sounds like something marcus popp could have been involved in. no, sandra bullock has nothing to do with this, despite the cover art.

been going down a lot of wormholes. really liked the throwing snow record. that guy referenced this guy in an interview. checked out this guy. really dig. drum n bass out of finland. sounds like it's straight outta the 90s... but also kinda updated....... just a really nice take on a well established sound. really great beat chopping. fun record! i actually paid money for it on bandcamp... only because it is 'pay what you wish'... i love it when artists do that.

In between rains, I took my kid to the park. We were the only ones there. We splashed in puddles and climbed and jumped. I thought about Syria, and nuclear holocaust, the rejection of science and Europe's pivot to the right. I thought these things on a Monday just before the rain set in again. We need to do it for the children.
