i am obsessed with modern day drum n bass... the darkness it conveys is very specific to itself... while modern techno can sound like a shed full of power tools left switched on and unattended, drum n bass by contrast always has a groove... it always plays with the elasticity of time... it makes you want to move your body: bop your head, shake your hips and stomp your feet. and somehow it still sounds murderous. this is a fine compilation of various artists from a fine label.

you know i've been thinking about Marginalized Culture of all the colors of the rainbow inside this pot ‘o’ gold we call The Info Age. it seems to me that a lot of subcultures that had commonly been treated as low brow have gained a lot of high brow status for those who bother to pay attention. drum n bass is one such subculture, and this comp exemplifies its vanguard at the time this blog post went to press.

i discovered these guys because their previous ep was listed as one of wire mag's best of the year a few years back, and i thought it was really great. i think of this groop as a younger sibling to stereolab. sophisticated upbeat pop for the information super highway age.
