i discovered the work of itallian producer when researching artists who's work was adjacent to the work of kangding ray. sure enough: where there's smoke, there's fire. chevel, a former label mate of kangding, has made music that's matured with each release. these two eps, released together in july 2018, are my favorite work of his to date. dreamy future sounds to bliss out to driving around in your flying car.

If Miike's Audition is the early 2000's equivalent to the shock one would have experienced upon seeing Hitchcock's Psycho in the 60's... then Topdown Dialectic are carrying the torch for an artist like Markus Popp, of Thrill Jockey's Oval. In the 90s, through music affectionately referred to as glitch, Oval deconstructed electronic music, using the sound of cds skipping as a frenetic form of percussive rhythm. Topdown, with this nuanced full length album, smear their music, delightfully obscuring and interrupting their rhythms textures melodies and ideas. Its no one trick pony. The resulting ideas are elegant and futuristic, blissful and refined.
