A lot of ink has been penned on the golden era of jazz. This website logs a lot of contemporary jazz releases. One might wonder who has carried the torch up to now? Greg Osby is one such stalwart artist. Jazz Times explains here why this record is important.

been one of my faves for a while + it was one of the first records on which i began to discover the greatness of paul motian. he's in top form here, mid-career + full of energy, serving the songs with his totally unique style, but not yet quite evolved fully into the hyperstrange abstract minimalism of his late period. the sh*t grooves hard through different moods (swing, latin, ballad + rubato) + harrell's tunes are downright catchy.

a lot of times, i gotta be honest, the saxamaphone has about all of the musical subtlety of the kazoo to my ears. this session is not one of those times. stellar record featuring ex bloody pandaman dan weiss on drums.
