in my opinion, slap bass is similar to cotton candy. the first time you encountered it, it's likely that you might have felt this thing to be the tastiest stuff man ever created. not long thereafter you probably realized, yea on second thought this stuff really rots your teeth. it's great, but it's really more for special occasions. it's nice a few times a year when you're a kid. then you grow up, your horizons broaden and you think, that's kids' stuff. you all but dismiss it out of hand. and yea, that's not entirely wrong to follow that instinct. however, you have likely noticed that the stuff isn't going anywhere. despite your having grown out of it, paradoxically it's still somehow timeless. it's classic. it still tastes great on those rare occasions when you do have it. there's a whole bunch of slap bass on this record. this ain't bootsy's take on slap. this ain't the seinfeld theme (that was a synthesizer anyway). this ain't flea. this ain't primus. this is something else altogether. the music is as vivid and sticky as this album title suggests.
