i got some leaves stuck in the vent in my car. took it to a jiffy lube. they opened up the glove box. changed the air filter. two different guys tried to make the fluttering sound go away that is constant any time my car's running unless i completely kill all airflow. no avail. i took matters into my own hands and grabbed that hose that you use to put air in your tires and stuck it in there trying to blow out the nuisance that had become the bain of my existance any time i drove in my car and wanted to listen to any quiet music whatsoever. no avail. my vent still makes this constant fluttering. the guys at jiffy lube said i'd have to take my car to a dealer and likely get a costly repair to take care of the problem. thing is, other than the noise, everything works fine. so what can i do? listen to death metal all the time, that's what. i've had a lot of fun going through the vast catalogues of some of the giant old school death metal bands. i've found that i like mid period morbid angel the best; formulas fatal to the flesh, the band's sixth album, is the one that appeals to me the best. with deicide, their earlier stuff is really exciting and that's it. everything after their first three records is garbage. incantation is a band i like whose catalog i'm still working through. first album is perfect. everything after that sort of blends together for me. their recent work is formidable but not essential based on my listening experience so far. but my jury is still out as to whether they have another record that is on par with their debut. immolation is another band whose debut is perfect. after that everything sort of blends together. this one is an exception. the riffs are brilliant. the drums are especially inspired. it's weird as hell. it's just so cool to me to think of these bands who have devoted their lives to this extreme music who have been doing their thing. how do they keep things relevant on their own terms? how do they define what's a good song for themselves? this band has been cranking out this music for over three decades and is still going. i tip my hat. this record is ripping. turn it up and forget about any other noise in your life.
