i spent a good amount of time with the excellent recent releases of a group called thumbscrew (namely, 'theirs' and 'ours'), and then was schooled by my cousin dj grape ape that that group is in some senses a red-headed step-child of these here old timers. this release is burning. it took me a while to bag what hall was raking here... eventually it was the conversation that brought me in, the incredible rhythm section and the dialogues all these players have here... something else.
