de la soul re-recorded new versions of tunes from their first 4 stone-cold-classic albums, this time with unheard j dilla beatz + totally revamped lyrical flows. it's like hearing "the rite of spring" conducted by stravinsky in 1926, and then by leonard bernstein in '58.  or miles davis playing "my funny valentine" in '57 with philly joe jones, and then in '65 with tony williams.  or something.

promise and warning post number five hundred.

this recording changed the way i heard harmony.  i had the pleasure to witness it performed by this ensemble lead by this conductor at the cathedral of st john the divine in manhattan on february ninth two thousand two, not six months after the twin towers had fallen.  an out of body experience.
